「広野火力発電所で使う、海に浮かぶ円筒型の装置に被せるフタ」です。なんだか空飛ぶ円盤みたいですよね♪

This is a lid to cover a cylindrical apparatus that floats in the water, and is used at Hirono Power station.
Don’t you think it looks a bit like a UFO??

フタをひっくり返して、一部を拡大した写真です。
丈夫なつくりにするため、当て布をして、ふちにロープを縫いこんでいます。
正円の場合は生地の繊維の流れに対して斜めに切るので、縫っているうちに伸びてきてしまい、プロの職人でも縫うのは至難の技です。
そのため、円周上にしるしを入れて、タックを入れながら慎重に縫っていきます。
海に浮かせるため、ハトメは錆びないステンレスを使っています。

This is a closeup of the back side of the lid.
We patched it and sewed a rope into the rim to make it stronger.
When you sew circle cut fabric, it’s hard for even a craftsman to sew it because the fabric stretches as it is being sewn, due to cutting it on an angle.
For this reason, we score some points on the circle’s perimeter, and sew while tacking carefully.
Since it will be floated in the sea, we use stainless steel eyelets which don’t rust.
